Childhood is the best time to learn good practices and habits. It is just like learning new languages. Any child who starts speaking the first language in her childhood, later comes as his or her mother tongue.
Similarly, any good habits kids are learning or we are teaching them at the childhood times, would follow them all over her life.
In the same way, here are three major habits I learned in my childhood times, still I am following intact or it not left me even my mid age times!
1. Piggy Bank saving
Piggy bank saving was my passion by putting very very small amounts that I was getting at the childhood times. I was so interested to put each and every penny I was receiving at the at that time.I was so intelligent to hide my piggy bank from anyone else and was not allowed the same to be touched by anyone else other than me. It was sufficient for me at that time to collect coins and get whatever
I want to buy during festival seasons etc. I have handed over this piggy bank habit to my kids and I love to see whenever they are depositing coins to that bank and in front of me. I also love to give them coins to add to their little wealth pot.
2. Intelligent Spending Habit
I don't know how many kids are able to follow this practice with such a required discipline, but I have trained myself to spend money intelligently during my childhood.
The first money fable I have read gave my such inspiration to understand the value of savings. Here is the fable:
"In a field one summer’s day a Grasshopper was hopping about, chirping and singing to its heart’s content. An Ant passed by, bearing along with great toil an ear of corn he was taking to the nest. “Why not come and chat with me,” said the Grasshopper “instead of toiling and moiling in that way?” “I am helping to lay up food for the winter,” said the Ant, “and recommend you to do the same.” “Why bother about winter?” said the Grasshopper; we have got plenty of food at present.” But the Ant went on its way and continued its toil. When the winter came the Grasshopper had no food and found itself dying of hunger, while it saw the ants distributing every day corn and grain from the stores they had collected in the summer. Then the Grasshopper knew: It is best to prepare for the days of necessity."
The Lesson: An oldie, but a goodies. It’s fine to have fun today, but you have to prepare for the future. You can have some fun today and buy frivolous things, but you also must prepare for emergencies, layoffs, and illnesses, as well as your long term future when you stop earning an income. If you do nothing but play, you’ll regret it when you really need money one day."
3. Sharing Knowledge to Others
My blog is the best example for this. I am sharing my experiences, Ideas and even collecting good practices and articles for our readers to make them with enough knowledge on various financial areas.I personally feels that, sharing knowledge is heavenly and a great tool. Not much people do that but, the one who really do it, taking a great chance to get more and more knowledge to the final wisdom!
Catch your kids young. Train them to practice and follow good money habits. this will help you to later see how intelligently they are dealing with money when others falling to trap and troubles!
